HYDROXYPROPYL METHYLCELLULOSE

HPMC is a non-ionic cellulose ether with multifunctional applications

Technical Specifications

  • Appearance: White to off-white powder/granules
  • Smell: No special smell.
  • Melting point: no clear melting point, decomposition temperature of about 200℃.
  • Density: 1.26-1.33 g/cm³ (depending on degree of polymerization and substitution).
  • Solubility: easily soluble in cold water, forming a transparent viscous solution, insoluble in hot water and most organic solvents.
  • It is prepared by treating cellulose with sodium hydroxide to form alkali cellulose, and then etherifying it with propylene oxide and chloromethane.
  • Stable to acid and base, non-toxic, but excessive oral can induce diarrhea
