- Appearance: White to off-white powder/granules
- Smell: No special smell.
- Melting point: no clear melting point, decomposition temperature of about 200℃.
- Density: 1.26-1.33 g/cm³ (depending on degree of polymerization and substitution).
- Solubility: easily soluble in cold water, forming a transparent viscous solution, insoluble in hot water and most organic solvents.
- It is prepared by treating cellulose with sodium hydroxide to form alkali cellulose, and then etherifying it with propylene oxide and chloromethane.
- Stable to acid and base, non-toxic, but excessive oral can induce diarrhea
