METHACRYLIC ACID (MAA)

Methacrylic Acid (MAA) is an important organic chemical raw material that belongs to unsaturated carboxylic acid. It contains carbon-carbon double bonds and carboxyl groups and has both polymerization and chemical reactivity.

Technical Specifications

  • Appearance: Colorless transparent liquid with pungent odor
  • Boiling point: about 80 °C (atmospheric pressure)
  • Density: about 1.01 g/cm³ (20°C)
  • Solubility: soluble in water but also soluble in alcohol, ether and other organic solvents
  • Flash point: about 13℃ (closed cup)
  • Refractive index: about 1.42 (20℃)

Applications

  • Synthetic resin:
    • For the production of polymethacrylic acid (PMA) and copolymers such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, i.e., Plexiglass),
    • Used to synthesize high-performance coating resin, giving the coating good weather resistance and luster
  • Adhesive:
    • Used in the production of pressure-sensitive adhesive, emulsion adhesive, etc.
    • With good bonding properties and weather resistance
  • Polymer materials:
    • Used for the synthesis of waterborne polyurethane, waterborne epoxy resin, etc.
    • Giving the material good flexibility and hydrophilicity
  • Coatings and inks:
    • Used in the production of high-performance coatings and inks
    • Giving materials good adhesion and chemical resistance
  • Other applications:
    • Used in the production of dental materials, medical implants, superabsorbent resins, etc.
