CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE

Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is an anionic water-soluble polymer

Technical Specifications

  • Appearance: White to yellowish powder/granules
  • Smell: No special smell.
  • Melting point: no clear melting point, decomposition temperature of about 200℃.
  • Density: 1.56 g/cm³ (depending on degree of polymerization and substitution).
  • Solubility: Easily soluble in water, forming a transparent viscous solution, insoluble in most organic solvents.
  • Alkali cellulose is prepared by treating cellulose with sodium hydroxide and reacting with monochloroacetic acid. It belongs to anionic cellulose ether.
  • The pKa of carboxymethyl substituents is about 4 in pure water and about 3.5 in 0.5 mol/L NaCl, which can be used as weakly acidic cation exchangers
